The puppies are one week old!

The puppies have just turned one week old. Nikki is a terrific mom and Jade is being a super Grandma. Weights are increasing steadily now and the puppies are visibly bigger and softer - and cuter! Here are some photos for you to enjoy!

First 24 Hours

Nikki and the puppies are doing great. Nikki is a wonderful mom and the puppies are great nursers. Hope you enjoy these new pictures.

Bedtime at last!

Well, all seven pups have arrived without incident and Nikki is being a wonderfully attentive mom, in between her naps. So, I am off to get a little shut eye, next to the whelping box. A big thanks goes out to my helpers with this litter - my nephews Colby (7) and Michael (10). I couldn't have done it without them (and they too are sleeping aside the box tonight). Here's a picture of Nikki and the new additions to our family.

# 7 - Last Pup born at 3:20am

The last puppy (finally!) was born at 3:20am. She is a silver fawn female, wearing the purple collar. She weighed 15.5 oz at birth...the heaviest pup at birth in this litter.

# 6 Arrived at 2:30am

Welcome Ms. Yellow, born at 2:30am, weighing 14.5 oz. She is a silver fawn female.

# 5 Arrived at 12:30am

This little one is another tawny boy. He is going to be wearing the Red collar. He weighs 15 oz.

# 4 Arrived at 11:55pm

# 4 has arrived and is a nice tawny male, 14.5 oz. He will be wearing an Orange collar.

# 3 Arrived at 11:10pm

Puppy Number three is a lovely tawny girl. She weighs 13oz. I'll post better pics later.

Puppy # 2 born at 10:05pm

Puppy number two is here! This one is a beautiful boy. Easy delivery. Whew! His collar color is Black. He was born at 10:05 and was 12.5 oz at birth.

Delivery Time

At 9:00pm, Nikki welcomed her first puppy - breech of course. Everything is fine, and this 15 ounce female seems to be a very strong puppy. She is the RAINBOW collared girl.

X-ray

The x-ray confirmed today that there are seven puppies. We don't think there are any more hiding in there even though she's already gained eight pounds.

Nikki eats and sleeps most of the time now and is at this moment sleeping in the whelping box for the first time. Yay! Her belly is really huge and now when she lays on her back or side, I can see the pups moving around all over the place. One more week to go...

Channahon Chinooks

is expecting!

CH Channahon's Nitika is expecting her first litter of puppies around June 24, 2008! The sire of the litter is CH Channahon's Northern Kodiak. Not only is this an exciting event because it is Nikki's first litter, but it is also the first time that we have been able to breed to a dog produced from our own kennel. More on June 17th when we have the puppy count from the x-ray!
